How to exit double-tap mode???

How to exit double-tap mode???

On a brand new iPod Touch (purchased March '11) it will no longer swipe to unlock the screen, nor swipe to scroll, won't swipe between screens, etc. It WILL work fine by double tapping the icons. How do I exit double-tap mode and get the Touch back to swiping again?

Someone has enabled voiceover mode, but since you don't hear it, "speak hints" must be disabled. You will have to double-tap to go through all these steps, It's part of the "Voiceover" feature. To get back to normal go to Settings, General, Accessibility which is at the bottom of the page. On that page at the top you will see "Voiceover". If it is on, and it sure sounds like it is, you will have to double-tap to turn it off. Now all should be well.

Thank you - restarting the Touch (page 43 of the manual) didn't place the Touch back in swipe mode. This is my girlfriend's daughter's Touch and I don't want to reset it right now or lose data, etc. Just looking for a quick answer for the moment - she has had to have gone into the general settings or accessibility area and accidentally selected a new setting. I can get down to "General" in the General Settings area settings but no further as you can't scroll down below "General". The Touch works fine but you have to double tap everything.

I can research this problem tomorrow but am trying to see if someone knows the exact setting to change. I also have seen that some accessibility settings can/should be made in iTunes menu while the iPod is docked. Apparently their are mode settings in iTunes.

Sorry...I forgot one thing until I read the rest of your post. With Voiceover on you have to use a 3 finger swipe to get to the bottom of the General Settings page where "Accessibility" is. 3 finger swipe is another part of Voiceover.

or you could just try this

iPhone is stuck in voiceover

-plug into iTunes and under the summary page for your device go down to configure universal access and select off when you see zoom and voiceover

-iPhone should be back to normal

-if no pc all you need to do is click on number once that you are trying to enter, wait a second then double click the number you'll have to do this for each number in your passcode as well when your are using your iPhone

-go to settings then general and then accessibility and go to voiceover and turn it off

-once it is turned off iphone back to normal

Thanks - resetting the Touch allows a swipe upon first unlock, then the swipe feature immediately stops working and you have to resort to double tapping from then on. When you single tap an icon, a gray square appears around the icon. When you double tap it, the icon (or app) opens up and works normally. I'm wondering if she downloaded an app that customizes how the user interface works. I have an iPhone4 and have not seen any settings for going between swiping and tapping either.

Perfecto!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks a lot. That was the issue. Swiping with 3 fingers got me down to the bottom of menu - to get to Accessibility and in to turn Voiceover off. Now the Touch works with 1 or 2 finger swipe, etc... as normal.

Thank you so much for this solution. My boss brought me his wifes phone with this problem. Hes leaving town this afternoon and had spent "two hours" on it last night trying to fix it. I was almost going to have to swap my shiny brand new 4s for her beat up release date 4s, until I could sort it out. Found your post, solved!!!

I played with the mode a bit, how can this be handy for anyone, having to swipe through selections and double tap icons.

Another thank you for this.

My daughter inadverntantly updated her 3rd Generation Touch to iOS 5.1; we had been keeping the unit at an older version of iOS since nothing in the update was particularly relevant to the iTouch 3. The update itself activated the VoiceOver mode.

Luckily, a quick half-hour of googling found this answer and solved the problem.

Thanks for this-

I have an iPhone 3GS with IOS 5 on it and got into this mode as well with the grey boxes and double clicking required for everything.

The triple clicking of the home button fixed it for me (didn't have to go into settings).

How good is the internet!

Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore.
