login on mail keeps popping up

I noticed since I did an upgrade that apple sends you through the software update, i have my mail open and doing something online it keeps popping up to login. It asks for the password and does it every few min. sometimes I have to do it 2x in a row. I never had the issue before. I have an ibook g4 with leopard. Is there a way to stop this annoying pop up to give the password?

ibook g4, Mac OS X (10.5)

Same exact situation here. Then I got an update notice from Smart Reporter, an app I use on login to keep watch of all that goes on in my computer...one of the reasons for the update was this issue of the server not remembering mail password in Mac mail app. But even after installing the updated version of that app I still have the same issue. Then I started to notice that all my saved passwords at Safari were having to be filled in manually ( ie. looked up in my hard copy book I save them in). I tried all sorts of recommended (at these forums) ways of fixing (repairing) my 'Keychain' only to the end of actually deleting every password in it User uploaded file Then I tried to "restore" the Keychain access app via 'Time Machine' (backups)....which did nothing to restore any passwords. I am NOT all that computer savvy....This is THE MOST frustrating nonsense ever. And I truly believe it happened when I installed the latest updates...The reason I have always gone MAC is to avoid this kind of mindfreaking mess. I am totally ready to throw the stinking machine out the window. I have wasted hours on this...And everytime that prompt comes up asking for my password...arghh!!.....well..I am at a loss. I hate to say it..but I am glad I am not the only one. Sorry...
If you figure it out can you please post back here??
Thank you!! Good luck!

What I don't understand is why can't Apple just tell us how to fix it? It would save a lot of hassle with Apple users trying to figure it out themselves. I wouldn't get rid of your Apple, I have always loved them. I had them at work for about 15 years and never had a problem with them. They had recently changed them to Dell and really missed the Apple. Overall, they are a great computer. I just wish they would address the issues or send update fixes for them. Good luck to you too.

Hi~ Thank you for the empathy...Don't worry I am a faithfull Mac user. I just have a short fuse re: inanimate objects that **** me off. I checked Software Update last night and there was Security Update..I installed it...Today I am not having the problem with Mail ...knock on wood....Perhaps something in the Security update fixed it? Don't forget to restart the puter after installing. Let us know if this works for you. Best of luck. I was thinking perhaps it could have been a problem with the server? I am using a wireless card in my desktop with AT&T...and the email is routed through yahoo via at&t.

Hooray, that was the problem. I updated the security when I went to software updates. That solved the problem!!User uploaded file Thank you so much. However, now everytime I send an email out it goes to send and it just spins the wheel. It will cont. until a pop up comes up and says use selected server. It is the same server outcoming that is on my mail preferences. Not sure how to fix that one.

Had the same problem and spent a LOT of frustrating time on ATT tech support until I got help from Jameela (sp?) at Level 2 support. Her name may make you assume she from one of their call centers in Mumbai, but she is one of the few native-English-speakers you'll get at ATT (she sounded like a "sista"), and she was awesome! The solution to the problem was verify all my email sub-accounts to each other and most importantly to the main account. Below is the email she sent me to do this:

_+ *Verify this email address*+_

_+* You recently added a new email address to your att.net account, or initiated verification of an existing email address. To verify that you own this email address, simply click on the link below. *+_

_+* Your email address was added to the att.net ID starting with 'oc4'. If this att.net ID does not belong to you, or you did not recently add your email address to this att.net ID, you may permanently stop receiving messages for this att.net ID at this email address. Please let us know. *+_

_+* Verifying your email address ensures that you can securely retrieve your account information if your password is lost or stolen. You must verify your email address before you can use it on AT&T services that require an email address. *+_

_+* For your security, please keep your email address information up-to-date. If this information changes, you can always update it by signing in to your att.net account and changing it from the "My Account" area. *+_

_+*Verify "boc-const@sbcglobal.net"*+_

_+* If you can't click the sign in button, you can verify your email address by copying and pasting (or typing) the following address into your browser: *+_

_+* https://edit.yahoo.com/commchannel/verify?.intl=us&p=IDjwZHyiZghCLgMg11HTz9d0Lx4dB5rAkpyT*+
9gcRx69.flLMgBAbchPJ4vNPJfekXss0CT6OVTkSI1WBWTdQ9YiDiEBFBj864r7S8g_F90JpKMW8Ms-& .partner=sbc&done=http%3A%2F%2Fmrd.mail.yahoo.com%2Foptions%3Fsection%3Daccounts %26email%3Dboc-const%40sbcglobal.net

_+* Not your account?*+_

_+* If you did not create this account, click here*+_

_+*Si vous n’êtes pas le créateur de ce compte, cliquez ici*+_

_+*Si no creaste esta cuenta, haz clic aquí*+_

All I had to do was click on the link, sign in to ATT webmail, and click the tab to verify. Voila!! I stopped getting the annoying error messages. If you call ATT, don't waste your time with the first operator who tries to "help" you. All they ever do is have you go over your email account settings with them, as if the settings that have worked for months or years have spontaneously changed themselves. Ask for Level 2 support and get them to help you verify the accounts to each other and to your main account. Hope this helps. This has been irritating me on and off for YEARS. I pray it's really over...
