iMac update to 10.6.7 - blue screen on restart

Hi,

I've updated my iMac (27 inches end of 2009) yesterday with 10.6.7. using the combo updater. When it restarted, it went through the grey screen with the Apple and got stuck afterwards at the blue screen where it seemed to be stuck in an infinite loop for half an hour (cursor disappearing, blue screen slightly dimmed then cursor reappearing...).

I restarted from the installation disk and restored from the last available TimeMachine backup (10.6.6), but with the same result. Grey screen then stuck at the blue screen where the cursor appears then disappears.

I then restored a previous backup but with still the same issue.

Any clues to what I can do next?

Many thanks.

Raf

Hi Raf,

I had the same problem on my MacPro after the update... In the end I was able to get through the blue screen by removing all cables, and a safe (Shift key) restart.

Now the system says after starting up Final Cut pro there is no VRAM installed, and no VideoCard...

I am now trying to do the update again from the comboUpdate ( http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1361).

Hope this will solve the problem. Let you know.

After installing the ComboUpdate 10.6.7 I still got the same problem,

When starting up FCP a pop up says:
FCP requires that your system have 128 MB of VRAM; this system has only 0 MB of VRAM.
FCP requires that your system have a quartz Extreme capable video Card.

Curiously: in system profile it says there is a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT on board...

10.6.7 Has to be avoided at all costs. I ended up partitioning ny 2TB drive into 2 x 1TB to allow SL to install because I kept geting bless cannot mount messages.I am going to try upgrading from 10.6.6 to 10.6.7 tonight to see what happens but iStats has been showing me cores going to 100% previously. Will let you all know after I try this.

I've installed 10.6.7 on multiple iMac's i've worked on recently and some of the installs go smooth and others hang like above. The software downloads but when it tries to go to the installer it goes to the blue screen and never gets any further. Mouse cursors may come back on the screen (even a still mouse and a moveable mouse images).

Our solution was to shut down the computer, reset PRAM (option command+PR) and let it start up and the installer should continue then.

Good Luck.

HI I am having the same issue and I've never had a problem with an OS update. I get the blue screen with the loop appearing and disappearing. I'm writing from a cloned external hard drive. I tried Disk Utility to repair the drive and it said the drive was ok. I couldn't boot into safe mode, got the same blue screen.
