iPhone 3G Dead?

My father sent sent me an iPhone 3G 8GB through USPS, I received it but didn't check it until I got home. Apparently someone from USPS must have switched my WORKING iPhone 3G with a broken iPhone 3G 32GB. Does not turn on and when I plug it into a computer or the wall (with USB > power outlet converter) the iPhone screen is black and the speaker just constantly buzzes.

Custom build, Windows 7

Sounds unlikely that anyone would do such a thing, unless the package is obviously tampered with, then you can file a claim.

As a start try holding HOME and SLEEP for 10-15 seconds, until an Apple logo appears.

No dice, screen remains black. Just to clear something up, there is no power going to the screen at all, there is no back-light. It looks as how it looks if it were dead.

Charge for half an hour with the wall charger, then try again. Also try a different cable. If it still doesn't work the phone is broken.

Well I tried charging for 30 minutes, didn't work. I'll try my local phone store for a different cord tomorrow. I also noticed that they do not make iPhone 3G's with 32GB, which means this is an iPhone 3Gs, which means this is posted in the wrong category. =(

Turns out this iPhone is a fake. Model # A1241 is a 3G model, but it says 32GB on the back. Doesn't feature a switch on the top left of the phone above the volume controls, just a button. I'm going to take your earlier advice and file a complaint, sorry to have wasted your time.

This really helped me with my IPHONE

I thought it was broke!! Thanks so much. Even called Verizon and they said to let it charge for 30-40 minutes and that was it. They said if that didnt work to call Apple (which was closed), because something must be technically wrong with it. I wanted to go out tonight but didnt want to travel late without a phone. Thanks, I can go out now!! What was going on with it?
