I am told it is something to do with increased DRM
(seems apple are trying to beat sony!) but DCOM?????
every security website has been advising users for
years that DCOM is BAD!
Umm.. I don't know what security websites that you read, but DCOM is a large part of the foundations of Windows. It's not "bad", by any stretch of the imagination. It also has nothing to do with DRM.
iTunes registers itself as a COM (Component Object Model) object in Windows, like thousands and thousands of other programs do.
What this error likely means is that iTunes probably had problems when you installed it, preventing it from registering itself properly with the Windows DCOM subsystem. Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes would be the suggested course of action. Make sure you install as a user with admin rights.
