DCOM errors, and iTunes re-launches itself

for some unknown reason, i recently started getting DCOM errors showing-up in the system event log relating to an iTunes DCOM registry entry (see below). these errors occur shortly after iTunes has been launched, even though iTunes itself is running just fine. it doesn't crash or anything, BUT when i close iTunes, the strangest thing happens... iTunes will terminate ok, but then restarts/launches itself a few seconds later! when i close it the second time, it stays shutdown at that point. kinda creepy. anyone else experiencing this strange behaviour with iTunes or the DCOM errors in the event log?

This problem has been around for over a year. I have continually emailed apple about it. I have documented now 128 cases just among the people I know.
Apple refuse to accept there is a problem, but the very latest release is now so bad that it is causing the crashing of iTunes in the final stage of updating the iPod, which means now a considerable amount of users worldwide will no longer be able to update their iPods.
I am told it is something to do with increased DRM (seems apple are trying to beat sony!) but DCOM????? every security website has been advising users for years that DCOM is BAD!
Come on Apple! your software is now unusable for a substantial percentage of users.
I have been working in conjuction with Microsoft Help Desk (at great expense) to resolve this, and they confirm the fault is in iTunes coding.

Umm.. I don't know what security websites that you read, but DCOM is a large part of the foundations of Windows. It's not "bad", by any stretch of the imagination. It also has nothing to do with DRM.

iTunes registers itself as a COM (Component Object Model) object in Windows, like thousands and thousands of other programs do.

What this error likely means is that iTunes probably had problems when you installed it, preventing it from registering itself properly with the Windows DCOM subsystem. Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes would be the suggested course of action. Make sure you install as a user with admin rights.

I too have started having this problem and its only occurring since I updated iTunes with the most recent update. I am using Win XP Home on Advent Laptop. Its extremely annoying. I am not a big fan of iTunes software anyway but this has made me recommend other people who are thinking of buying an iPod to get another portable music device. Especially when I see on this forum that Apple are refusing to acknowledge that there is a problem.
