Is there a way to force Safari into the private browsing mode? In other words, can I set up Safari to always open up in private browsing?

The link you refer to may only work in older versions of Safari as it was written in response to version 4 Safari question and in Safari 10 (current version) there are many updates. a couple of points, e.g., things to keep in mind in this regard about the current version:

  1. Some people may think that they are in Private Browsing mode when they are not.
  2. Opening a Private Browsing window is possible by a keyboard shortcut already in the current Safari and may be preferable (File>Shift+⌘N)
  3. Speaking about private browsing, you should also enable your search engine in an encrypted form. Google has such an option. That enables the private mode of search regardless of whether the browser window is enabled.

Hi, yes there is a way to turn on Privte Browsing when you enter Safari, but you have to enter a shortcut, like Shift > Command > P.

You can set your own shortcut up by going to the System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Application Shortcuts > click the + sign, choose Safari from the drop down box, enter in Menu Title "Private Browsing" then enter in a shortcut you can remember to turn on Privte Browsing once you enter Safari.
