Not able to uninstall apps from iPad 2

I am not able to uninstall apps from my iPad 2. When I press and hold an app (one that I installed) all apps start to jiggle as expected. However, the 'X' doesn't appear on any app. Is anyone else facing the same problem? Btw, I tried restarting and syncing but neither helped.

Quite a few and not able to uninstall any! CNN, Flipboard, Angry Birds.. to name a few.

Have you set restrictions to prevent apps from being removed ? i.e. is Settings > General > Restrictions > Deleting Apps set 'off' ?
