mail not starting up - reinstall fails

hello,

since we have accidentally transferred a user account from a 10.6.6 to a 10.5.8 apple mail no longer works.

as it simply does not open, we thought well how about we use our 10.5 installer disk to reinstall apple mail from the optional install, but unfortunately to no avail - the installation completes but unfortunately mail will still not start up as it produces an error message stating this version of mail is incompatible... btw. this mail does not work on the newly transferred (from 10.6) and all preexisting (10.5.8) accounts.

now we are somewhat stuck, short of rebuilding the whole machine we thought well how about we just copy the various mail related folders across from another 10.5.8 mac, but this also fails... maybe we forgot to copy something?

any thoughts appreciated.

ds.

seems that upgrading to 10.6 rectifies the problem. ds.
