Macbook Pro microphone not working

I have a macbook pro from about mid 2010. My inbuilt microphone is not working. I have tried all system preference settings and even Audio MIDI setting but still not working. Cannot get any activity. Can anyone help?

Macbbok Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

Try resetting the PRAM and then the SMC to see if that corrects the problem.

Same problem here. Saw two input lines and assumed i needed a dual jack mic/headphone set. Apparently the input jack requires a powered line-in (ie like an ipod output) however if you use a single mic/headphone jack and plug it into the speaker out plug it will work fine.

the Macbook pro - bought it at xmas - works fine except the Mic - just happened a few days - just stopped working - bad sound card .... the sound card is on the mother baord of the laptop - right? - anyway how do i fix it!!
