Importing error

When trying to import photos from my digital camera, many of the photos imported; however, about 100 did not. As far as I know, all pictures were taken with the same camera settings. The error message I am receiving says that my photos cannot be imported because they are of an unrecognized format--DSCN1582.JPG. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Launch Image Capture and see if you can use it to upload those problem photos to a folder on the Desktop. Then try to import from there.

If they still don't, try opening one with Preview. If you can, do a Save As and give it a new file name. See if that new file will import. If it does then you can use Preview on the others in the same manner.

However that may be very time consuming. Another approach is to try using this Automator workflow application, Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile on the files and then import. Download the file from Toad's Cellar and unzip. Drag the contents of the folder of photos onto the app for the conversion. Be sure to try it on one photo first, a copy, to make sure it will work.
