Can I use Apple TV to stream everything (desktop, YouTube, Safari, iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, etc.) to my TV or do I still need an obnoxiously large cable to connect to my MacBook Pro for that stuff? Is Apple TV only good for watching stuff streamed thru iTunes and Netflix and the YouTube app?
MacBook Pro 2.2GHz quad-core, Mac OS X (10.5.1), Apple TV (2010)

You can only watch Netflix, iTunes, Podcasts, Youtube and a few others natively. If you own an ios device running 4.3 you can use airplay to stream other content, this will be expanding as developers implement the feautre.
