Adobe flash freezes safari & firefox

Here's a weird one for you, I just updated my new Mac Mini Server to 10.6.7
I tried to run speedtest.net and safari freezes up and so does firefox 4.

So I took a step back, does youtube work, no (freezes both browsers)
Does adobe.com/flash work, no (freezes both browsers)

I have updated to the latest flash version and uninstalled flash twice.

What on earth causes such a thing?

Yes flash webpages work on my 10.6.7 client mac, Yes flash pages work on my other 10.6.7 Mac Server.

MBP i5, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

I have no solution for you, but some data on what I have tried.

I am running OS X Server 10.6.7 as well.

Any page which loads flash hangs the browser, requiring a force quit.

I downloaded the uninstaller from the flash website, and and older version of flash.
After uninstalling flash 10.2, I installed the most recent 10.1 Flash version.

There was no change. THis was tested both on my account, and freshly created account, so this is not a preference or cache issue. It appears fundamental to this version of the OS.

As for the usual "fun" with Flash, (and if you can get there) go to the Adobe Flash settings web site and toggle your Flash settings, clean out your Flash cookies and your Flash databases, toggle the settings to allow or deny storage, and the rest of the usual shuffle. Or uninstall and leave it uninstalled; with no Flash around, a number of sites will revert to H.264. (Well, other than the Speedtest stuff.)

If you can't get at the Flash settings site from within the tool, then I'd Google around for details of the backing store and to see where Flash leaves its pieces and preferences and cache on-disk (probably somewhere under ~/Library, but that is a guess) and see about purging the settings "more directly".

Any website that has flash will lock up the browsers, so that's out for accessing flash settings.

But I combed through the common places like lib/app support and prefs which is where adobe likes to hide its CS stuff, but Flash is nowhere to be found...

I could just re-install the OS, but I'm not gonna worry with it, I was just looking to see if anyone could identify the problem.

Try a different user, as that will tend to rule in or rule out a problem with your local settings.

As for the settings and according to Wikipedia, look underneath...

~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/

And for the Air stuff, look underneath...

~/Library/Preferences/<application RDN>

There are probably tools around that will clean or will reset these directories, too.

I'd just deinstall the stuff. There's a [write-up|http://www.cultofmac.com/uninstall-flash-for-mac-os-x-in-seven-easy-s teps-how-to/67699] or two around that cover this, and some cover how to use (IIRC) Opera with its Flash plug-in, and to leave Flash Player uninstalled everywhere is.

Adobe has an uninstaller DMG download that you can try. Rummage around over at Adobe for the uninstallation instructions or the uninstall flash_playerosx.dmg stuff.

Okay... so I found a solution... and I hope this helps anyone else.

I did the following to resolve this issue:

1- installed adobe flash (latest version)

2- ran repair permissions in disk utilities [ applicaton / utilities/ disk utility

3- opened safari/ firefox/ chrome and cleared the cache out (as well as cookies, etc.)

This worked for me and now flash is running well.

Good luck everyone!
