how to configure with a Pioneer receiver

I am trying to configure Apple TV using a Pioneer VSX-820 receiver. I am not sure how to set the tv input. I have an hdmi cable from the unit to the rec'r and from the receiver to the tv. The tv is a Mitsubishi WD52627. Should I bypass the receiver and connect the Apple device to the tv via HDMI cable? Where do I set up the computer to broadcast to the device?

IMac, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

You have two options for connecting the Apple TV, TV and receiver. The HDMI cable can go to the receiver and another from the receiver to the TV, this is probably the best option if you have other devices besides the Apple TV, or the HDMI cable can go direct to the TV, in which case you'll need a digital optical cable to connect the Apple TV to the receiver.

The computer can go anywhere, usually where you would use it naturally, say in your den for example, the connection between the computer and the Apple TV is done wirelessly (unless you are able to wire it using Ethernet, which is often better but not always possible).

Hi,

This is my first time posting so I hope I am asking my question in the right place. I have a second generation apple tv with the hdmi output going to a pioneer elite vsx-23txh. The output of the receiver goes to a jvC dla-x3 projector. When I view the apple tv content it seems to shift the image to the right and I am only able to see about 7/8 of the screen. With the first generation apple tv I was able to select 1080p as my output source and it worked but the second generation apple tv only allows auto hdmi output and I am not able to get the images to show properly. My other hdmi sources (ps3 and shaw cable) work fine in the same configuration. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Thanks - my issue is that the Apple TV gen 1 seemed to fill the screen fine but I can't seem to make the second gen work properly. I would prefer to continue using the second gen on this system but I will have to go back to the first gen if I can't improve the view through the projector. I imagine that it has something to do with the way that the receiver processes the signal and outputs to the projector. It doesn't seem to scale the 720p signal to fill the screen the way that the 1080p signal does. Is there somewhere else that I should be asking this question?

Thanks!

Yes, it's likely an HDMI scaling or display offset issue. No harm trying different HDMI leads/inputs.

Try and isolate the problem by connecting direct to the projector - if that works ok, then the finger points to the Pioneer's handling of the signal from AppleTV.

You might try a separate post about your issue in case anyone has a similar setup, as the discussion may otherwise go unnoticed as part of a solved thread.
