Deleting ical events over 30 days

i cannot upgrade to the new ical because I have too many events. I need to delete events. When I go to ical preferences you can select to delete events over 30 days. 30 days is grayed out and I cannot change it. 30 days is no where near enough. I need to keep the last year. Any suggestions?
