Red close button not always working in browser

Same problem here. Thought it was my Magic Mouse, but it happens when I revert to my wired mouse. Just got a Magic Trackpad and it's still a problem. Happens randomly and I have to click on another window and reclick the red button to make it work. Ridiculous.

I posted the work around a while back, but I guess its lost in the middle of this rather long list:

Turns out the problem is very common and frustrating. The solution is to change the Double Click speed to something rather high in trackpad preferences.

Note: this problem can be reproduced by clicking between the Red and Yellow buttons on the top left of a window. Those buttons are now non responsive till the window is clicked again – say by moving it using the title bar.

Did you change the Double Click speed to something high? Sorry, I am not sure what you mean by "can't confirm"

I just tried this. It worked once, but now it doesn't. Restarted computer, opened Applications from "Go" on toolbar and it worked! But then I tried again. Now it's completely back to the same non-functioning button. I set double click to max speed, have tried single, double, gajillion clicking the inert red button. Green and yellow buttons work properly.

This is a very old topic, and appending your own question to the end of it is not the best strategy. Also, note that there have been several good troubleshooting solutions posted (much) earlier, such as starting up in safe mode or testing on a different user account. If you have not done those things, I suggest you try them now.

Read the entire post, solutions have already been presented.

red button fix can be done by setting the double click to something very fast , but it does not address the trackpad selecting issue. i cannot select my text with the trackpad.

happens on both - it's a bug for sure. BTW, happens on the "close tab" in Safari too.

Your comments are not helpful nor are they meaningful. Whether you can confirm something (what ever that means) is disrespectful of those posting solutions that work for their issue. It's very possible that a problem can have multiple cause and solutions and you pooh poohing others provides nothing but a lack of clarity. Who are you to confirm anything.
