Thanks, Bob!! The simple solution that you posted on January 19 worked for me as well. As you stated, clearing the cache via the AppleTV remote did the trick and the movie ("Hitchcock" in this case) immediately played fine. Much appreciated!!

I have a similar problem but its with my music. It plays music from my itunes library for 10 mins then cuts to the same message. I did a factory reset on my Imac and its been doin this since. ANY IDEAS. Id have did most thigs as suggested to date including changing DNS. I also cant factory reset. It wont allow. Iyt says please try later.

Using the remote that came with the AppleTV, click and hold both the down button and the menu button for 20 seconds. You'll notice that the LED white light on the AppleTV will keep flashing. Once it does that release both buttons on the remote. The Apple TV now should be restarting itself. At that point I think what the Apple TV's doing is releasing any corrupted cache files were catch files or cookies it may have. In any case it works with me almost all the time.

Now if that doesn't work then I highly suggest you purchase a new more advanced router. You may argue that "it used to work before on your old router why isn't it not working now…? My answer to that is "Well… That used to be the case with me until I change the router. After that it started working just fine. However when I changed the router at that time I did not know about the clicking the two buttons together for 22 seconds trick. So changing the router could have had nothing to do with it to be honest"

My apple tv has been playing everything fine. However, when i use the cbc tv app (cdn), it begins to play on my phone. When i hit the aarow to sent it to my apple tv, it starts to transferover (spinning wheel), then neverloads instead msg is displayed : cannot play content try again later.

Anyone have an idea? Thanks in advance

I've been searching for someone who is having this issue too. Everything on my apple tv works except when i play my itunes music - it plays songs, sometimes 2-3 and sometimes up to 15 and then displays the "an error occurred loading this content" message. Did this start for you with a certain software update?

I'm also getting this error message, but only when streaming a podcast, specifically 'Washington Week'. All my other podcasts work great, both my favorites, and random new ones. All other streaming-Netflix, iTunes, Youtube-work great, too. 'Washington Week' will stream on my wife's iPad when connected to our home network, but not the ATV2. I've tried all the resets and restarts, and also changing DNS. Interestingly, 'Washington Week' won't play on my iMac in iTunes, giving the error 'this file needs Quicktime to play, and iTunes 11 doesn't support Quicktime'. Does the latest ATV OS not support it either? Is 'Washington Week' just behind the times in changing streaming formats?

I've restored the apple tv to factory settings, done the remote trick, and my router is the latest generation apple airport extreme.

If all else fails, try lowering down the resolution

Go to settings / iTunes settings / chose a smaller resolution setting

Try 720p or Standard

Its a HDMI handshake problem. I had this months ago and found a cure.

I did these things 1. Unplug the hdmi cables. First tv then apple tv 2. Unplug the TV power and the AppleTV power, let them sit 30-60 seconds, 3. Plug in hdmi cables while power is off 4. plug the tv power in first, then the ATV power. This worked for me! (I was told it's an HDCP Handshake error, and the handshake is forced to be done again by unplugging power, but make sure you unplug both devices and plug them in the order above).

OK, I had the same issue and tried everthing with no luck. I then decided to connect my apple tv to itunes on my computer and try to restore it. I used the micro usb connection on the Apple TV and plugged it into my computer (power needs to be connected to Apple TV as well). I then opened itunes and the Apple TV was desplayed on the left hand side of itunes. I then was able to restore the Apple TV and upgrade it from there. After the restore I reconnected it to my TV and whent through the Apple TV setup and connected it to my Apple ID then my movies were able to play. It fixed it!!!!!

Maybe this can help others.

I had this error due to a LAN hiccup. My DNS was set at auto. I set to manual and gave same IP as my wireless router (I'm hard wired into the wireless router).

This worked for both wireless and wired setups.

I didn't need to change anything else. Here's what I did:

Settings > General > Network > Ethernet (or Wireless depending on your interface to the network) > Configure DNS > Manual > enter router IP address. (most home networks out of the box are 192.168.1.1)

Guaranteed fix.

I spent days trying to figure this out, after doing a total restore on the ATV. The problem turned out to be an incorrect DNS configuration - and not on the router! If you are using a VPN-type solution to watch otherwise unavailable TV channels, for example, remember to check the DNS setting for your server. You may well discover that the system restore isn't set to the correct DNS. Welcome back, BBC!
