itunes reading the importing track on the cd in the wrong order
when i import a cd into my library, the tracks are in the wrong order, ie track 5 then track 18 then track 1 etc etc. am i being thick and just cant find how to turn off the random play? or is there something else wrong? Please tell me what to do (in really simple language
)
Thanks x
If the tracks are
displayed in the wrong order then you probably need to chose a different column to sort on.
If they
play out of order then check the second icon in at the bottom left of the iTunes window is grey and not blue (shuffle off/on).
If the track titles/numbers don't match the content as can happen when different versions of the same CD are released with different track orders, and you picked or iTunes guessed the wrong one when reading the CDDB data, then you'll probably have to work it out the long way.
If I still haven't guessed exactly what the issue is then please elaborate...
thanks! very helpful... but still not the answer!!! when i turn the shuffle on (blue) it plays the cd in the correct order
but still won't import in the correct order.
I insert the disc, and it displays the tracks in a random order. i dont know what else to say really... is it possible that the computer has a virus, i did get a dodgy call on skype the other day, i hung up on it...
any help you can give is really appriciated x
In each view in iTunes you can control which columns are displayed. Right/option click on the column headings when you are on the import screen to make sure that basic data such as
Album and *Track Number* are displayed and then click on the column headings to sort by that column. It is probably sorting on something like
Time at the moment which would give a seemingly random track order.
There are a few options for shuffle, but one is *Shuffle by Albums*. I'm guessing that even though the tracks are listed haphazardly, if you play them in the *Shuffle by Albums* mode it plays the tracks in the correct order. Use *Control > Shuffle > By Songs/Albums/Groupings* to change the behaviour or *... > Turn Off Shuffle* to turn if off.

PS I've just run some tests and confirmed my hunch for the way Shuffle by Albums works 🙂
thank you thank you and thank you... we've cracked it
i right clicked on the album column, and it rearranged the cd in the correct order, and is now happily importing,
thank you so much x
hold up... its just messed up again i put the cd in, a different one, it showed the tracks in the correct order, but when i looked in the library they had been imported in random, the same random order as when i click on the album column in the importing window... ah man!!
this is totally random... it's corrected itself again!!! think i'll have to ride this one out and see what happens, it may be that it likes some cd's and not others there's no accounting for taste! thanks for all your help x
Every playlist, source and view has it's own independent settings for which columns are displayed and which one is controlling the sort order. As I point out in the very first link not all columns sort and group albums sensibly, just choose the sort column to suit the needs of the task at hand. *Album by Artist* (ascending order) is generally best for playback.
Time might be best if you wanted to review your collection of extended prog rock pieces...
tt2 ... is/was listening to Awaken by Yes at the time of posting.
right definatley cracked it this time... i now have it sorted by album title and not artist, as it was the mix cd's that were random.
thank you so much for your perseverance, x
