USB Microphone Recognized, But No Sound When Recording
I've been using a Blue Snowball USB mic for a couple months and it worked fine...any ideas why my new Blue Yeti USB mic is getting recognized but not picking up sound?

I have had the same problem with two separate Yeti Pros now. Thanks to your confirmation that working versions do exist, I'll try returning it yet again.
hello, i had the same problem with the yeti pro; However after playing around with my mic for i while i figured out the solution. Basically as @TeenTitan said above go to preferences and select Audio/Midi. Afterwards go to input and select Yeti as appose to built in input. I'm guessing that your output is set as yeti as well. So go to output and select built in output instead of Yeti. DONE test it and reply to me if it works 😀
Take a look at this youtube vidoe. It will fix yeti pro problem. Amazing!
I'm glad you found a solution but this issue is more common than you think, and I have been able to reproduce it on 3 brand new Yeti Pros.
With many Yeti Pros and the latest Macs that have USB2/3 ports the mics will produce no sound at all even after pluging in multiple times, re assigning them under Sound preferences, or adjusting all input/output volume sliders
The issue in most cases is that the Physcial Mute button on the mic is not communicting properly with the device settings under the "Audio MIDI Setup" app on your Mac. If you open up Audio MIDI Setup, you will see your Yeti Pro as a device with 3 checkboxes, Master, Ch1 and Ch2. The Mute checkbox next to Master is what's causing the issue...the physical button on the Mic is supposed to toggle this checkbox, but doesn't. Unchecking manually will fix the issue...but it's not a permenent fix, and Blue has shown know signs of resolving this issue.
Greetings,
My Blue Yeti Pro also seemed to just stop working one day and I followed theungodlytaco's suggestion to look at the "Audio MIDI Setup" app in the utilities folder. In my case the issue was not related to the action of the mute button though. That was working just fine.
Of the three channels that are displayed for this device, "Master" is driven by the volume slider in the Sound Settings inside System Preferences. However, the "Analogue 1" and "Analogue 2" channels had such a low volume setting so the net effect was that the mic was not picking up any sound at all. I moved those two sliders up and the mic is back to normal operation.
Hope this helps.
I've been having a problem using Yeti as output from Ableton. I was able to select Yeti as audio output from Audio Midi Setup (preferences) and hear audio from the computer but when selecting Yeti from Ableton there was no sound. I dug further into Audio MIDI Setup and found, on the output tab, Master was muted (mute was cheked) and both channels were set to zero volume. Not sure how that happened or why audio worked from youtube but not ableton... but there it is. Uncheck "mute" and turn the channels up. Turn the volume down on your mic headphones because you probably turned the volume up trying to get it to work.
I have found the fix for it. After months of having this issue. I had to unplug and re plug and eventually it would work. But then it started to not work at all.
Click Apps/Utilties/Audio Midi After clicked that, click the Blue in/out You'll notice on the input master it has the MUTE box checked. That is the reason it's putting out no sound, even when you click the mute button off on the microphone.
If you plug it in again, and there is no sound, once again, go to audio midi and unmute it. It automatically mutes it for some reason.
I got my new Blue Yeti today. I couldn't understand why I wasn't getting any sound. Did a quick Google search and found this forum. Kathhies solution worked for me, many thanks!
