I can add gmail account via Google Talk but not non-gmail account

I have a Google Account and the email address associated with it is "myusername@yahoo.com". In other words, I have a Google Account but don't have Gmail. I can login to Google Talk via iGoogle with no problem so I know it works. However, it won't accept my credentials when logging in to iChat 5 (choosing Google Talk as the account type). I have other Google Accounts that USE gmail and those work fine.

Anyone else expereince this behavior? It's like if you have a Google Account but don't use gmail, iChat won't authenticate right even though using Google's native iGoogle chat plugin works just fine with these non-gmail Google Accounts.

Have I stumbled upon a bug or could there be some other explanation?

Also, why is there no iChat AV 4 or 5 forum? Why does it stop at iChat AV 3?

Hi,

Do this.

In the Add Account pane choose Jabber.
Enter your ID and Password.
Click through the apply buttons
Now you may get a message it cannot connect.
Go to the Sever Setting tab for that account
Change the Server Name to google.com
The Port can stay the same but 443 also works.

Go to the Account Info tab and select Use this account" and you should Log On.
It is worth adding a Name to the Description field for this account (Before Logging On).
This gets displayed as this name across the top of the Buddy List (Instead of Jabber Buddy List (or the ID if you have more than one Jabber Buddy List) )
It will also be listed in the Window Menu by that Description as well as in the iChat Menu > Accounts and the Pop Menu if you Hold on the Icon on the DOCK.
