Can't eject mount from Finder

When I run Time Machine the mount appears in Finder. When I want to unplug the drive and click the round eject icon next to the drive in Finder, nothing happens. I can eject it be trashing the Desktop icon for the drive.
Any clue on why Finder can't eject?

Try restarting the computer then see if the device will eject from the sidebar.

I've had this 'bug' for a while and have rebooted a few times since, so I don't think that's it.
