iPad 2 64GB Wifi+3G - error 1013 on update (and now restore)

I picked up a new iPad 2 earlier - my first one.

Extactically happy with it, I trundled home after a 15min wait at the local Comet (no Apple queues for me, thanks!) and started to sync my apps and then play around.

iTunes asked me to update to 4.3.1, so I said yes.

BAM. "The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1013)."

This is using the iPad cable, hooked up to a mid-2010 unibody Mac mini, equipped with 10.6.6 and the latest version of iTunes.

I've restarted iTunes and indeed the Mac and the iPad, but I don't know what else to do. Is there anything, or am I out of luck? 😟

I'm another owner of a 3G 64gb iPad 2 that did not handle the 4.3.1 upgrade at all well. After being stuck in that need to restore, error loop for a while, I found this thread. The fix above did let me restore, but like the above poster, all of my additional apps were gone. The thought of reinstalling and reorganizing the many, many apps I have did not make me happy. So I selected the restore from backup command again. It proceeded through the 12 minute restore, but is time it's continuing on with a sync that looks like it's reinstalling my apps without me having to select them. Time will tell if the folders will come back.

So Id suggest immediately running the restore from backup again to see if this time it continues on to the app sync.

I had the same problem, error 1013 upon upgrading to ios 4.3.1. Following the suggestion from this thread by commenting the line with gs.apple.com in file 'hosts' without rebooting the computer, I was able to to restore(upgrade to 4.3.1) without 1013 error. The remaining is to restore backup, apps, and rearrange 100+ apps.
