Today my iPad 2 has been stolen.
I'm so distraught over this and there is nothing more that I want than to get it back.
I have already filed a police report but of course not much is gonna happen.
I tried using mobile me but it can find a location since it is a WiFi model.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN DO?

Alienware x15, Windows 7

Maybe file insurance claim? Other that, nothing.

    Hi,

Help here for a lost or stolen Apple device.

Sorry for your loss... You have done all you can do at this point.

A wifi model can use Find My iPhone as long as you turned on location services. My wife's iPod touch is wifi only and I can find it at MobileMe. But this assumes you added other protections to prevent the thief from getting into your iPad and turn off location services. I'm hoping you did have a passcode turned on. But whatever the circumstances, I'm very sorry for your loss - a heartbreak for sure.

it sure is..I do have a passcode on it bu can't they still restore it on itunes?

Yep. The "Find" function will locate a lost device. It is not intended to find a stolen device.

Sadly there are scums that rely on drugs and stealing in this world.

Is there a way to track it without mobileme but with the serial #?

Is there a way that I could file an insurance claim since it was stolen?

You can turn the serial number into the police when you file a report (generally the police will ask for any information you have on the item, such as the serial number) and you can file a claim with your home-owner's insurance policy (or car insurance, if it was stolen from your car). However, there is no way for you to track it by serial number.

Sure. Call your insurance company and ask for a claim form.

I would also call Apple and give them your serial number. If the person tries to get service at any store, the serial number will be in their system.

Be grateful you didn't get stabbed! A lot of folks have been seriously hurt over iPhones and iPods!

Don't waste time. See Carolyn's response above.

    And then they will do?
    Nothing.

Car insurance doesn't cover stolen items. Homeowner insurance deductible may be more than what the stolen item is worth. If you do use homeowner insurance think about it, is it worth making a claim? Is it worth the chance being dropped by the insurance company after making a claim? (This applies to the US, other countries have different laws when it comes the insurance companies.)

If you do use your insurance company, don't call them. Read your policy first!
