Double space for period

Double space for period

A friend has a new iPhone and it will NOT put a period after a word when I type 2 spaces the way I can on my own iPhone - both the current 4G version and my previous 3G (not 3GS). Hers is a 4G. For the life of me I can't find any setting which might have been turned off to preclude the automatic period when typing two periods. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.6.1)

Hi Helen: Try this. Settings > General > Keyboard > "." Shortcut set to On.

Thank you for your courteous response Stedman. To EBSkater - I DID try Google first, as well as read the archives of this forum but if one doesn't know exactly what phrase to search for, one doesn't come up with the correct answer.

Thanks to both of you for the correct solution. I searched through the General settings on the phone but zoned out on "Keyboard". Thanks for getting me back on track.
