Update iPad with 3G modem

How can I update iPad with 3G modem? Modem blocks another USB port thus they can't be plugged in simultaneously.

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

only way is to get an usb hub

A short USB male > female cable will allow both to be attached at once.
I use a USB 3G Stick modem attached via a USB cable for all my Internet.
