Trying to restore (Error 3259)

Let me start by saying I've been searching all morning for a possible answer to my problem in the countless threads about error 3259 and I haven't found a solution or a situation that resembles mine, so here it goes.

I've had 2 macs (13 inch intel macbook and now 13inch macbook pro) since I got the iPhone 3GS and I've never been able to update the software on any of them because every time I get said error. Must be my connection/router, right? wrong. How have I been updating? Using my dad's laptop (Dell, Windows 7).

So now I'm trying to restore but I get the same error when the download reaches 100%.

I tried turning off the firewall but realized I've never even had it on.
And needless to say, I don't have an anti-virus installed (probably should though).
The computer is connected directly to the router via ethernet cable.

Any other suggestions would be really appreciated?

Error 3000-3999: (3002, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3164, 3194, and so on) Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, an entry in your hosts file redirecting requests to gs.apple.com, or due to your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues. Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again.

Thanks for replying. The thing is, I'm having this problem on my Mac. I've been updating my iPhone's software using my dad's laptop (Windows 7), without changing any of the firewall settings, I don't even log in to my iTunes store account to update it, just plug the phone and start downloading/updating.

So, this is why I think it has something to do with my Macbook and not with the connection.
