Insufficient Bonjour Privileges Can't Install

Hi,

Itunes stopped recognising my iPhone so I uninstalled and tried to install again. I get the message during instalation of iTunes 10 that I have insufficient privileges to install Bonjour and the installation stops. Any idea how to fix? I turned off my anti virus and no good. Pretty annoyed with the shoddy software at the moment......

Thanks,
Stephen.

Exact message is "Service 'Bounjour Service' (Bonjour Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." then it gives me the 'option' to cancel or retry.

🙂 many thanks.

Trying something relatively simple first. Sometimes we can get past those by disabling the Bonjour Service prior to the install.

Right-click "My Computer" and select "Manage".
Expand "Services and Applications"
Open "Services" (maximise the window to better see what's going on).
Right-click the BonJour Service and select "Properties". In the General tab, change the Start-up type to "Disabled" and then click OK.

Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the error this time?

Suggesting some sort of interference by something else when it tries to go in.

Okay, let's try a download-reboot-disable-install strategy.

Download and save a fresh copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (installer) file to your hard drive. (Don't run the install on line and don't start the install just yet.

Restart the PC. After the PC restarts, do not open any applications.

Disconnect from your network and/or the internet.

Now disable all your security software (firewall/antivirus/antispyware/filters).

Now start the install by doubleclicking the itunessetup.exe you downloaded earlier.

Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to your network and/or the internet.

Any better luck with that install attempt?

b noir is no longer actively posting, I suspect at that point you need to reboot the computer before attempting to install iTunes. If that doesn't work for you then read on.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with third party software.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
