MacBook Pro won't turn on

MacBook Pro won't turn on

I had a program running last night and when I woke up this morning my computer wasn't on. I attempted to turn it on and nothing happened. I know this is a vague question, but what could be the issue? Thanks for your help.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.1)

It doesn't seem to recognize it. The lights (neither green nor orange) don't come on. The battery is full though. The computer just won't turn on.

Exactly what happens after you push the power button? Is there any activity whatsoever?

Then, if you know it's getting power (batt and/or power adapter), there isn't much to do but bring it to the "genius" bar or an AASP. Earlier you said the batt has a full charge. How do you know that?

I first thought that the MagSafe board could be shot but I'm thinking it's more serious since the computer itself won't even turn on with a charged battery.

Try the usual.

Boot safe mode...

then try single user mode (verbose)

reset pram (hold down command option+pr) while booting

target disk mode work?

The problem is that I can't even attempt those things because the computer won't turn on. Period. Nothing.

I'm curious if someone could tell me that if my MagSafe board is dead could that cause my MacBook Pro to become unresponsive? I'm thinking that it's both my Logic board and my MagSafe board. Thanks.

I've never run across that before and don't know the answer to that question, but if the left I/O board can indeed cause there to be absolutely no signs of life even with a fully charged battery, then it could also be just the cable between that board and the LB. Another potential cause of these symptoms is a faulty power button, which requires replacing the top case. Given that as a possibility, try "massaging" the power button, especially around the edges. I've never had one apart, but with power buttons on other electronics/electrical equipment that has sometimes yielded results.

Depending on the cost, it might be worth your while to find a place that will test the components, not play trial and error replacement.

Good idea. Maybe a short inside the machine as well? Sometimes the power supply will not operate as a protection for a shorted peice of hardware i nthe machine. Also, you could just take it apart and test the power lines with a voltmeter to see if they are working and in spec.

DO NOT OPEN YOUR MAC AND DO YOUR OWN TESTS AS IT CAN VOID YOUR WARRENTY.

My suggestion would be make a gueniuss bar appointment at your closest apple store and they will do tests and tell you what it is. If you still have warrenty left they will replace and do everything for nothing and if the issue is bad enough they might offer you a new mac ( ONLY IF YOU ARE IN WARRENTY )

Here is my story

I had a similar issue

My MBP mid 2012 ( MBP = Mac Book Pro ) and when it was two weeks old the mag safe addapter would only stay green when i pluged it in. And funny enough my mac would not charge. They after 10 minutes it turned off and would not turn on again. I did all the resets that apple told me to do and nothing. I took it in to Doncaster and they had it for about two weeks to do work on it. Turns out it was the battery and logic board.
