I can't import multiple photos at once to iPhoto '09

Every time I try to import multiple pictures/videos, the import stalls, and after a very long time (30 minutes? more?) the import will fail. I think the error is that it was unable to read an image. This is with maybe 30 items.

I then imported each one individually, and it worked perfectly. So clearly the images are fine.

Is this a known issue with the iPhone 4?
