Apr 26, 2011 2:32 AM in response to chrism2202by budjames1,I don't know how to quit programs if your home button does not work.
In my case, the home button works, but sometimes I have to press it a few times for the click to register.

Apr 26, 2011 10:55 AM in response to Anacoreta Cenobitaby JJutsum,I'm having the same problem since the 4.3.1 upgrade. It's incredibly frustrating as it seems so random! The home button will operate as normal and then just bog down, not respond or respond incorrectly. Sometimes I can't wake the phone up. I did a restore to factory settings and set the phone up as new. Then I only put a few select apps back on that have been rock solid for at least the last six months. All seemed well until I launched Safari. Since then it's been back to the random non, or wrong function. Seems obvious that it's a software issue. I hope there is a fix soon.

Apr 26, 2011 11:14 AM in response to chrism2202by deseomar,To quit programs when your home button is disabled (because a homebutton twice isnt possible)
1. Hold down the sleep button until the "Slide to power off" shows up.
2. Release the sleep button.
3. Press and hold the home button for 10 seconds.
The screen should blink and return you to the Home screen.
This worked for me twice this week when the home button stopped working.
... Your milage may vary....

Apr 28, 2011 10:56 AM in response to deseomarby Mustafakaiser,Hmmm well I also recently started facing this problem after the upgrade. About a week now I can say. It gets better and it's not so bad say in 20 presses it does not work once or twice max. That is 5 to 10 percent of the time :(
If the phone is on the table and I press it it works every time. I also have post you can read it.

Apr 28, 2011 4:46 PM in response to Anacoreta Cenobitaby paulbruster,I had this issue on my 3G before I got the 4 and just assumed it was a hardware flaw. My iphone 4 is now 9 months old and the home button recently started not working right. I didn't consider a software problem, but since so many of you are have the exact same problem with a brand new phone, then I guess it's software related. I'm still tempted to get mine replaced though, just to be sure.
p.s. Like everyone else, I closed all open apps (didn't work) and then reset my phone to no avail.
p.s.s This problem was reported back in Sept. 2010 after the 4.1 upgrade. So once again, is it software or the phone just fails? Here's that thread if you'd like to read it: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1015300

Apr 29, 2011 3:25 AM in response to budjames1by Mustafakaiser,I upgrade to 4.3.2 and the problem started. Mine is not so bad. I know some people on 4.3.2 and they dont have the issue so I am not too sure what causes it.
I too am hoping its a software issue and that it should be solved ASAP.

May 1, 2011 8:54 AM in response to Anacoreta Cenobitaby TXRangers,I may have had a breakthru... I started thinking what would everyone be using on their iPhone and iPad? Safari!!! So I undocked Safari from the bottom of the screen and rebooted my iPad. It instantly started working flawlessly! I ran it pushing the button often and it never missed! Single clicks, double clicks it’s been working perfectly. I tried the same thing for my iPhone which was having the same issue and it also has worked perfect ever sense undocking safari, rebooting, and then it was safe to put safari back to the original location! So far all of the clicks to the home button have worked!

May 1, 2011 9:25 AM in response to TXRangersby enyo,Hi TXRangers.
Great that you found a way to get rid of the problem. I just wanted to say that my problem also disappeared after closing all applications and rebooting, and I did not have to remove Safari from the dock.
So.. your solution might be a workaround for the problem, but it doesn't seem to be the cause.
I really must say: it baffles me that 1) such a bug even exists, and that 2) apple does nothing about it! No feedback whatsoever from a google employe! Way to go customer service...

May 1, 2011 9:59 AM in response to enyoby TXRangers,Enyo,
I had also tried everything short of a complete reset thru iTunes. My home button was only working about 70% of the time if that good. I did shut down all programs, reboot, hard reboot and all. The problem was still there. Maybe what I found was just lucky for me, but since then I have not missed a home click on either my iPhone or iPad. -It's simple and worth a try if all else has failed. And saved a trip to the Apple Store!
I agree, I wish there were an apple fix instead of me wasting an entire morning fooling with it! But hey, if it works for someone else it's worth a try! Bottom line it would have been nice if the problem was not there at all!!!
