ProRes 422 versus ProRes 422 HQ ?

ProRes 422 versus ProRes 422 HQ ?

I know this is a boring and never ending question. (Working with XDCam EX (MPEG 2 long GOP). I really wont to get this clear ones time for all: Are I am right when saying:

1: Export to Apple Pro Res 422 for final output (desktop and later to the web) or something else) the best option to keep a good final copy of my masterpiece.

2. Export to ApplePro Res 422 HQ (only if it is intended for further manipulation) otherwise an overkill.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7), FCS 7

ProRes LT should be enough. Do a test and report back if you see a difference!

HQ is absolute overkill in any case and will do nothing for the image quality. What it will do is take up considerably more space on your hard drive.

Nick, I made 3 versions: ProRes 422, HQ, LT. No difference at all in terms of quality to the naked eyes. So I am sticking to the LT version as you suggests. Thanks

You can stack 2 different codecs of the same material on the timeline, highlight both, right click, choose Composite Mode>Differences.

This will show you the difference between the 2 files. If the image is black then there is no difference. It's a great way to see what differences there might be.
