Canon IR C3480i vs 10.6.7 update
If u guys have any ideas let me know.
Out of this world, Mac OS X (10.6.7)
Out of this world, Mac OS X (10.6.7)
I have been dealing with this issue in a medium sized organization as well and I've come to the following conclusions:
1) New printer drivers provided by canon do resolve printing issues to networked IR C3480
2) ....but using the fax feature directly from a workstation running 10.6.7 does not work. By printing to our C3480 printer in fax mode we are able to specify a direct recipient of the print out via fax, but after 10.6.7, any text in the fax is removed and replaced with empty cells. This happens regardless of the machine, user, document type or application.
Please let me know if anyone is successful in "printing to fax" using a canon networked printer after 10.6.7! Thanks,
I don't use the Fax driver so I cannot confirm if the same issue exists, but it makes sense that it does have the same issue as the UFR2 driver. Looking at the Canon Australia web site there is a new version of the OS X Fax driver that was released after the UFR2 driver. Maybe this version 3.30resolves the text not appearing in the sent fax?
Thanks Pahu - I just tried it and remotely installed the updated package (http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0100116602.html) on 20 of our machines that are running Snow Leopard.
The updated driver was unsuccessful in correcting this issue with Fax though. I've tried the "IR-ADV C Series Fax," "IR C Series Fax," and "IR Series Fax" drivers to no avail. The empty text boxes still remain in our outgoing faxes with every one of these drivers. It seems the IR C3480 is not supported by this update per the included documentation from Canon...
C'mon Apple (or Canon?)!
I have a law firm client that had the same print issue with a C4080i. The 2.24 update fixed the printing. But they are having the same fax issue. The fax goes through fine, but nothing other than header info prints. If anyone has a workaround until Canon releases a new driver I'd love to hear it. Thanks!
Has the Apple 10.6.7 Font Update been applied to this Mac?
PAHU,
Yes, all of the Macs are fully updated.
I just found this discussion after searching for help with my MacBook Pro, running OS 10.6.7 not printing to our company's Canon ImageRUNNER C3480i after I upgraded to this OS. We had a Canon technician come out and he got it working for a couple of weeks, but now it won't work again. I've tried to get help from Canon, but nothing received yet. Please help!
Rick,
The latest driver from the Canon web site fixed all of our print problems. Still waiting on a new fax driver...
Hello Roy,
There is a now a version 3.31 of the Fax driver available. I tested this new driver using the About Stacks document via an iR C3380i and the text was printed at the receiving fax.
Hello rickfromshalimar,
As Roy mentioned, the UFR2 v2.24 driver resolved the issue with text not printing or the Raster message appearing when printing after the 10.6.7 update. Is this the issue that you are having or do you have some other issue? More details will help us help you.
PAHU,
The 3.31 driver isn't on the US site yet, so thanks for the link. I'll pop in on Monday and give it a try.
I have been having problems with my 3480 since the beginning, but it is now getting to the point I can barely use it. Canon says they have no obligation to update drivers beyond the operating system in effect when they leased me the unit. Apparently a Canon user needs to commit to not upgrade his computer system for five years to be a Canon customer.

Well that's a quite an exaggeration. While Canon has previously take some time to get their printer drivers updated for business products, they do eventually update them for current models. And for their consumer products, they generally have drivers available as soon as the new OS is released.
The PS3 and UFR2 printer drivers to support this model have been available for quite a while. And there is also the PPD for this model, which has never had an issue with any OS X update. So if you did the correct thing and ensured the iR C3480 had the PS kit then no future OS X will stop you from printing.
If you can be more specific about why you "can barely use it" I may be able to provide a solution.
Thank you for your kind offer of advice.
I have a Canon irC3480 with 4 drawers, the big side paper deck, and the saddle stich finsiher, as well as the computer on the back (Fiery?). It is at least my 4th Canon copier. I have been a good customer over the years.
I am currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, but have had this copier since probably Tiger. (4 years?)
I can only install drivers by resetting the printer system. They have me using irC348--3380-J1PS Ver 1.1 and iR C3480/C338--J1 Fax (US). In the past they had me install these by navigating to a subfolder in the printer-ppd folder in the Library.
I cannot get the printer to collate. If I print multiple copies it puts all the pages together, When I try to create and use a preset the computer freezes. If I want to print multple copies I have to do them one at a time and set up all the settings for each individual copy.
Numerous techs have been unable to fix this. I have escalated this to the highest reaches of Canon USA, and they indeed told me they have no obligation to support subsequent operating systems and that Apple has not released the information they need to update the drivers - for four years!. They offerred to lease me a new copier at a signfgantly higher cost.
I finally cancelled by service contract.
Now my office manager/secretary's computer has been reformatted and will not print at all!
Any advice you can give me would be very much appreciated.
Michael
