There was an error saving the VNC password.

I'm running Mac OS 10.6.7. When I turn "screen sharing" on in the sharing preferences and then click on "computer settings" I checkmark "VNC viewers may control screen with password:"
I then enter a password.....then enter my system password.....and I am given the error "There was an error saving the VNC password.".
Even when I do not use a password for VNC my computer is not able to screen share. I'm able to use the app "remotetap" with my iPhone along with the corresponding preference pane for OS X.
My computer is able to file share with other computers, but I cannot get it to screen share with anything other than the remotetap app.

MacBook early 2008, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Please boot in safe mode (shift key down at startup.) Same problem? If not, then some third-party software you installed is causing it. If you still have the problem in safe mode, then your system is corrupted. Download and apply the 10.6.7 combo updater. If that doesn't fix it, then reinstall Snow Leopard.

I had the same problem when booting to safe mode. I also redownloaded the 10.6.7 combo updated and installed. This also did not help. Any other suggestions before I reinstall snow leopard?

I'm thinking, maybe a permissions or similar problem on

/Library/Preferences/com.apple.VNCSettings.txt

The permissions shoule be System read and Everyone nothing... Try renaming this file to something else and see if the VNC password dialog will create a new one that it likes better.
