Problem with the microphone on iPad2

Hello,

I have an iPad2 WiFi 32GB, the problem is that the microphone does not work, when I tried to talk trough skype or try to play my voice recorded by any other application I only obtain a sound like a static. Do you know how to fix this issue?

I thought this was just a problem with the 3g units (Apple has 3 different microphone assemblies WiFi only, VZ and AT&T).

My iPad 2 VZ 64GB microphone zapped after 18 days (first heavy static, then it just would record at a 95-99% audio reduction). Geniuses 1st tried doing a low level firmware wipe - but that did not fix the hardware problem.

Apple Genius Bar will replace with new one in 3-5 days (although the people waiting daily will get theirs earlier, the "new" service models have to come from Apple Engineering in a "white box."). Ugh.

To all iPad2 64Gig WiFi owners. My IPad2 was working fine for a couple of months then as most described, I was getting like white noise, o no sound at all using Skype/FaceTime/Recording videos.

I checked online and went through the claim made by iLounge to its iPad 2 review on how the same microphone is placed in the two different models.

I found for my iPad2 64Gig WiFi (no 3G), the microphone was placed above the front camera (that tiny hole that I inspected when I got my iPad2 the first day and forgot to inspect later).

Well, I blew that whole with a Compressed Gas Duster (Dynex, part numer DX-CNDAIR1) and tested recording one more time.... Problem Solved!

I had opened online (earlier to my discovery) a support ticket with Apple, they will mail a box so I can send them my iPad for repair/replacement. I'll wait a few weeks before I release my iPad2 to them, as I have a custom engrave and don't like the idea to wait for 2-4 weeks to get the replacement back. I'll keep you posted!

I had a similar problem, the mic didn't work. After 3 calls to 1800MyApple I had to bring it in to get a replacement. Unfortunately I had to wait in the overcrowded store for an hour to get it, but after 1 day it does still work. Also, I received a brown box iPad, meaning it could have been a return or furbish. The whole experience dented my opinion of Apple in the sense it appears they are too overwhelmed by their own popularity. An amazing problem to have.

I thought blowing sir was working, but eventually had to replace it. The home button and/or software associated with was also failing. This was a big disappointment. Blowing out with air was not a final solution. The call to apple proved to neither be smooth nor sufficient to get a solution. They wanted me to drive two hrs to Frankfurt and somehow find the apple store. I work foa living. Costs money to do their narrow minded solution. Gas alone would have bee fifty dollars. Loss of work time would have been another three hundred dollars. I do not think apple has the customer in mind. A sad scenario. Rms
