Exporting HD to SD with center crop

Hi,

I have searched for the answer to this in these forums but have not found the best way to export HD to SD in Final Cut Pro 7 with center crop. I need to export to digibeta with out the 16X9 ratio. I have created an NTSC 720 X 486 Sequence and copied the 1080 16 X 9 time line in and just blown it up to fit. I think there might be a better way. Any one know about this?

Or simply use compressor to generate an NTSC 4:3 with a center crop from your larger file.

Engage "frame controls" as better (not best) and define the crop.

Are you looking for 8 bit uncompressed, DV50 or ProRes standard def or something else as the result?

Are you playing back to tape?

I actually do what you describe quite a lot, exactly as you are doing it. My source footage is shot by idiots and the blow-up, reposition is actually quite beneficial.

I am looking for 8-10 bit SD to go to digibeta tape. ProRes is fine as well. I will try your method. My concern is maintaining quality.
