My iPhone won't update to 4.3

Everytime I click "Update" on the iTunes screen when my phone is plugged in, it says that "This version of iTunes (9.2) is the current version." The last time I updated my phone was with 4.1 so I'm pretty behind at this point. I already restored the settings on my phone and it still says the same thing. How do I get my iTunes to know to update the iphone and not iTunes itself. Also, isn't there a newer version of iTunes anyway?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

ios 4.3 requires itunes 10.2 which requires Mac os 10.5.8 or later.

You need to upgrade your os.

What if I have Snow Leopard (10.6.7) and I have iTunes 10.2.1 and iTunes still says I have the most recent update for my iPhone (4.2.1)?

consider yourself lucky you cannot update!
I just did a routine update in Itune and my Iphone 4 basically died in the middle of it; all I have now is a photo of the iphone connecting to Itunes but Itunes won't recognize it, hard reset doesn't work, I am totally screwed.

Do you have a 3G or 3GS?
iOS 4.2.1 is the end of the road for the 3G.

My iPhone 3GS won't update to the current 4.3.4 its stuck at 4.2.1 and when i "check for update" in the latest iTunes on my Mac which is running Lion it says there are no new updates for this phone.

Help?

hi i'm getting the same problem, i'm on 4.2.1, itunes ver 10.4 on win 7 64bit ultimate, i've tried countless things to upgrade to latest version of ios 4.3.5 however it comes up saying i'm upto date even tho i know i'm not, tried manual install and still it won't load up to initiate the upgrade so anyone got any idea's never had this problem b4. oh n it's an iphone 3gs

My best guess is that you have an iPhone 3G, not a 3GS. Because 4.2.1 is the most recent version for the 3G.
