Time Machine hangs on login
Apple Macbook (unibody) 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo w/ 4GB DDR3
Mac OS X v 10.6.7
Issue:
Using Time Machine to connect to a WDC Mybook World Edition II (white light). No issues accessing the public file share through finder/bonjour.
Starting a little more than a week ago, Time Machine stopped being able to connect to the WD_Backup (the default Time Machine backup partition on this particular WDC MBWE). It kept timing out, and any attempt to go back and re-configure TM to access WD_Backup, ends up with a permanent "hang" when asked to enter the Username and Password for WD_Backup (swirling beach ball - going on 20 minutes now). I ultimately have to a force quit the process. It's worth noting that NO error shows up in the system logs.
I've reset the WD_Backup password to factory defaults, and still no luck.
I was told to try deleting the com.apple.timemachine.plist, also to no avail.
I've tried to SSH into the WDC, but can only access the public share, not the WD_Backup share. It asks for the password, and when I give it, it says it's incorrect (despite being able to use that same password to access the WD_Backup through their web interface).
I'm stuck. Any thoughts? Does any of this make any sense?
Thank you in advance for any/all your help.
