iPad2 Home Button unresponsive

I recently started experiencing an issue with the Home button on my iPad 2. Occasionally, pressing it will do nothing. So I press it again -- sometimes upwards of 4 or 5 presses before it finally responds. I'm not mashing the button and am certain that each press is an appropriate amount of force (I proudly own an iPhone 3, 3GS, 4, iPad 1 and now iPad 2, so I'm confident about how much force to press these Home buttons).
I tried power cycling the iPad 2, but that didn't help. I closed all running applications. At first, that seemed to work. For several hours, the Home button was perfectly responsive.
But alas, here I am this evening, again frustrated with the non-responsive Home button. At times, I can't even turn on my iPad since the button won't respond for several seconds.

I backed it up in iTunes and restored the factory settings. I notice it's still being unresponsive. It's so odd that the problem is intermittent. Much of the time it works fine. Then all of a sudden, when I press the Home button.... nada. It's like there is some kind of lag from when I press it and when (if) it responds. There are times when after a few presses, a brief moment later, the iPad 2 will open up the task switcher (indicating that I pushed it twice). Other times, it'll go to the search screen.

Again, this is occurring whether I'm using my configuration (latest IOS version) or even with the factory default setting.

Could really use some help or advice. Is anyone else experiencing this? I did a google search, and it seems very few are experiencing it. But it does seem to be more than just myself (if only a very small handful of people).

Thanks in advance!

Ok, I will give it a try. But it should take about one or two days for the battery to fully drain down and recharge.

In the meantime, one thing that I noticed is, the responsiveness of the home button does change after each charge (whether it is full charge or not).

Like I said, after the first charge from the wall outlet, the home button seems working a lot better(90% of the time, it works). Nevertheless, I put it on charge again for 15min, after that charge, opposively, the home button seems not working 90% of the time.

I will keep you update after I fully drained my iPad 2's battery.

Btw, I'm on 4.3 firmware.

Things are the same after a complete drained battery and a full charge from wall outlet with the 10W power adaptor..

I found out that the problem with the home button is less likely to occur while charging.. I really do not think that it is a hardware faulty..

It ***** that I'm currently in a country where there is no iPad for sell yet.. Thus, I can't go to the genius bar to have mine replaced or repaired.. =(

Even though I have the multitasking gesture enabled, I would still like to be able to use the home button when I want to..

I'm frustrated right now..

Hi,

I closed all running applications. At first, that seemed to work. For several hours, the Home button was perfectly responsive.

Could be an app causing the Home button glitch. If you haven't tried this already, connect the iPad to your computer, launch iTunes, select the Apps tab in the menu.

Sync 3 or 4 apps at a time, then "test" the Home button. Process of elimination but you just might find the offending app.

I have noticed some apps like Safari at times difficult to override. It seems that the app (or program) is waiting for an input before allowing the Home Button to operate. Even on my iMac this can be the case. I can't proceed to the next location until my first response comes in. Perhaps the Home Button is operating as it should in some cases. Apple should clarify this. I do know that my iPad2 Home button was much worse when I received it and rather than powering from the usb, the power supply provided seemed to fix it. If it is a software issue, hopefully it will eventually be resolved. But interesting about the apps. This should be tested on all troubled ipads. Would like to hear more about this from others as well. Interesting Carolyn.

Thanks, I'll charge it with the supplied adapter as soon as I drain this power cycle. I was at the beach and I used my wife's iPad 1Gen power adapter, I don't know if this could have triggered it... BTW, does any of you use the "smart cover", could the strongs magnetic fields be disturbing the home button? I use the red one.

Good luck everyone, I am thousand of miles away from an Apple store...
