Navigation suggestions

In different user support forums there seem to be a few standard navigational items in the process. The Apple Discussions, while very helpful, do not have them, and I don't know why. Here are my suggestions, in order of importance:

1) A checkbox "Notify me automatically when someone responds." This seems extremely basic and helpful to the OP, but I don't why it doesn't exist here.

2) A "preview" button to preview your message before posting.

other:
3) I currently have a question about navigating the Apple site itself (related to finding information on all my registered Apple products.), but there is no forum category for using the Apple site itself.

I think these adjustments would be helpful.

It does; it is called "Subscribe to this topic" or "... forum" and is the binocular icon. Also, if you click on "My Settings" in the panel to the right, there is a "Subscription Preferences" section. The "My Subscriptions" link in the same panel to the right lets you set your preferences, too.

2) A "preview" button to preview your message before posting.

It does; when you're writing in the Compose window, at the top are 2 Tabs: "Compose" and "Preview"

That is because this is a USER-TO-USER technical support forum; no official Apple support is here. However, in answer to your question try here:

Ok thanks. I do see the Preview/Compose (in fact I have used it in the past, so I must have known it was there at some point).

The "Subscribe" though, I only see a binocular icon next to "My Subscriptions" in the right hand column. I see nothing directly under the message itself that would be immediately related to that post ("Subscribe to this topic" or "... forum).

There is "Post Message," "Save Now," and "Discard & Cancel."

Thank you for the reply.

1. Click on "My Subscriptions" in the right panel.
2. Under "Subscription Preferences" set the following:

Always subscribe to topics I create: Yes No
Always subscribe to topics I reply to: Yes No
Send subscription emails:

The last has a drop down menu for you to choose how often you're notified.

Note these are the same options also found under the "Subscription Preferences" in "My Settings". Just different routes to them.

he was looking for it when in the "Compose" tab of the "Reply" window

Moreover, he was looking for a Subscribe button "immediately related to \[a] post," and no one had as yet pointed him to the Subscribe button that is attached to each individual topic, which, in my reading more germane to his issue than anything in My Settings.

It's not visible in the Compose tab, but it is visible immediately after creating a topic.

Actually his first question was about being notified automatically when he posted a message. Since that can only be done via the My Settings/My Subscriptions areas, we were telling him about it. He was looking for the option in the Compose window.

I, and others, also did point out the "Subscribe to Topic" option; as you say that only appears after a topic has been created.
