    Hello James,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!

We are not allowed to speculate such things because doing so would violoate the Terms of Use you agreed to when you signed up for these forums. On top of that, since we are all users just like you, nobody here would know the answer to that.

However, it is unlikely that it will ever receive any more updates because its hardware is no longer sufficient enough to handle new iOS updates and features.

Wait a sec... didn't you just do what you stated the OP could not do?

Anyhow, considering that Apple broke iPOD 2nd gen (battery drain issue) with iOS 4.0, I would necessarily state that it is impossible that they won't fix it.

I suspect part of the problem is that most folks are just too darn lazy to submit a bug report. Either that or Apple simply doesn't care. Don't know which is more true yet.

Report a iPOD bug (don't be lazy 'cause it ain't gonna git fixed unless you tell Apple):

I have two 2nd generation iPod Touches and I don't have a battery problem so nothing is broken for me.
I am not bragging or complaining, just report the facts.

Have you taken yours in to have it checked out?
