My iPad2 is set up to use my Exchange account for mail and calendar, and I have the invitation alerts turned on. I am getting some pretty strange invitation alert messages however. Today when I got back to my desk the iPad said I had 262,144 invitations! No, I am not really that popular. In reality, I had 2 new invitations. What's the deal? I've never noticed this behavior on my iPhone4 which is set up to use the same account.

You might need to verify if you have your Exchange "Mail Days to Synch" settings correctly set I've seen in the past where a client had their "Mail Days to Synch" set to one month they received over 5,00 invitations. After changing it to 3 days and re-synchronized the data we were able to resolve the issue. If all else fails remove the account, set it up again and ensure that you set Mail Days to synch to 3 days and see if that works. Let me know if you need any help.

I also forgot to mention that if you have multiple calendars selected within the Calendar that would usually do it as well. I'd also recommend Pocket informant HD. Pocket Informant ‘sits on top’ of the iPad's native ‘Calendar’ app and (optionally) imports all entries that it finds there. They can be colour coded so they can be distinguished from entries made in Pocket Informant itself.

This is important because many other iPad apps use the native ‘Calendar’ app as the default place to put events, invitations etc. So, for example, if you are invited to a meeting by email and you receive that invitation in the iPad’s native ‘Mail’ app, that app can automatically (and quite cleverly) insert that invitation into the default calendar app. Without that integration between the native app and Pocket Informant, you'd have to enter those invitations all over again.

Pocket Informant has lots of ‘hidden’ features too. One of the reviewers remarked that part of the ‘fun’ of using Pocket Informant was discovering them!! The display is infinitely configurable - day, week, month, year at a time. Tasks, events, overdue tasks, projects, projects in progress etc etc all can be optionally displayed on the main calendar. Projects and tasks can have infinitely nested sub-tasks and projects - these can cleverly be integrated with GPS - so, say you needed to purchase some goods from the hardware store. Put that in a To-Do list and link it to the location of the hardware store using the iPad’s native ‘Maps’ app. Next time you’re driving past the hardware store, up pops the notification (‘Remember to purchase some 2”x4” timber’).

Repeating events are very flexible too, with the ‘custom’ mode being infinitely (I keep using that word!) configurable. So, meetings that occur on the last Thursday and first Monday of every other month - no problem.

It can sync with external calendars - Google for example - and back-up is cool, it creates a backup file that you can email to yourself for safe keeping. If you lose your iPad or all your data is corrupted, that backup can be imported back into Pocket Informant with a single click.

You can create multiple diaries within Pocket Informant - say ‘Work’, ‘Family’, ‘Golf Club’ etc and have their entries optionally displayed on the main screen or restricted to the display of the individual diary.

If you surf to the developer’s web-site, you can download for free a very comprehensive User Manual that will show you in detail what Pocket Informant can do.

I'm experiencing the same problem on a new iPad2: I get alerts each day for an increasingly large number of invitations (now up to 524,288), but when I go to view the invitations there are only the one or two new invitations that I've received.

I don't think that the responses to this so far are on-topic: the shortest time that events can be synced is "Events 2 Weeks Back" -- mine is set for Events 1 Month Back. I don't think that the extended advertisement for Pocket Informant is helpful in addressing the issue.

This issue arose for me after switching from the original iPad to iPad2. No settings have changed otherwise. I do have multiple calendars: Exchange, and MobileMe.

Agreed, I don't think the Mail Days to Sync has any relevance to the issue. Mail syncing is not the problem. I continued to have this problem to the point that I turned off invitation alerts altogether because they were essentially useless to me.

    I'm now up 67,108,864 Invitations.

    Anyone else seeing this issue?

I received another invitation, and now the alert reports "134,217,728 Invitations".

Same issue - iPad 2 reporting hundreds of thousands of invitations. Doesn't stop me from doing anything, but it's become more annoying than Charlie Sheen at this point.

Not to reference anything from Mr. Sheen but it appears that the current iOS 4.3.2 release is "WINNING". I'm not getting 65,345 invitations anymore on my iPad 2 YAY!

    I'm seeing this too

    I'm also seeing this issue; it's ever-increasing.

So far, only in the hundreds of thousands, but come on!

I am experiencing the same issue.  Over 1,000,000 invitations ..  But really only one in my main calendar

Only an issue since moving to the iPad 2 from iPad 1

    I'm experiencing this same issue.

This doesn't happen on my iPad 1 or iPhone 4, but it happens on the iPad 2.

The same issue started for me today when I turned on the iPad 2 (iPhone 4 works normally and settings are the same).  Does Apple monitor this thread?  It seems there is a virus or bug since it has been working fine for a while now and would potentially require a fix and update.

Same here. Over 500k invites ever since switching from iPad 1 to iPad 2. Nothing appears corrupted and everything seems to work as expected, like alarms, but the count of new invites is obviously bogus.
