Cam back from hols and my iPad battery (which was low when I left) appeared to have died. Plugged iPad in overnight and left it to charge.

Nothing seemed to have happened this morning, and have been trying to get it to work since, trawling google and these forums with no luck.

When plugged into the mains charger the apple logo come on for a few seconds then goes off, then comes on, then goes off and on and on...

When plugged into my iMac the screen remains blank, no charging sounds etc.

I managed to get the iPad into DFU mode and started the restore process, but it errors out after preparing the ipad for restore for quite some time.

Any suggestions? I've booked a genius bar appointment for tomorrow, but really don't want to have to traipse all the way into london to get it seen to.

Did you try a reset....hold home and sleep/wake buttons down at same time and don't let up until you see the Apple logo on a black screen....then leave it alone...sometimes takes a few minutes to come back to life.

Yeah I'd tried all of that and more.

Took it into see a Genius and they couldn't get it to do anything, so was given a replacement.

this happened to me a couple of minutes ago, so what I did is plugged my iPad 4 into a different plug socket and charger and the left it for say 2/3 minutes and read another review of this problem and when I checked it again it was charging and on 3%. my point is just try and leave it for  a few minutes, and use a different charger if possible. Hope this works for you! Molly x
