any way to stop text messages from showing up on screen of iphone 4?
tired of having anyone who is around my iphone from seeing when I receive a text and from whom. anyway around this without breaking the phone?

Go to Settings > Messages > Show Preview to Off.
i understand that but what happens is the name of contact person still appears...
Ah, ok. No, there is not a way to turn that off.
So basically you want to receive a text message, but have all notification that you got a new message suppressed...wow.
You get this, and you know how many people'll end up activating it, and then complaining that their phone is broken? And you want to break your phone because it's operating the way it's supposed to...

Why not rename your contacts so that they show up as Anon1, Anon2, etc...
Is that option available on the iphone 4? for some reason in my message settings I dont see the "show preview" option at all.
Go to Settings/Notifications/Messages and turn off Notification Center, Alert Style, and View in Lock Screen.
