Gmail user name or password is incorrect

So, two hours ago, my iPad was checking my gmail just fine. About 20 minutes ago, I tried to check it and got this message: Cannot get Mail The user name or password for "Gmail" is incorrect.

What gives? I verified that I could sign in at gmail's website. My iPhone checks gmail without a problem.

I've tried rebooting. I tried turning gmail on and off. Even tried deleting the account and re-adding it. No luck. I've seen some similar problems in discussions, but can't find one that has an answer.

I'm desperate!

Google search " gmail captcha" and reset your account, your iPad may have been kicked due to "unusual activity" but has no error message to say that so it just thinks it's an incorrect password issue. By going to that you are unlocking your account telling google everything is A-OK.

I had the same problem and I think I just solved it.

I used the Gmail configuration (not Exchange), with thiago37@gmail.com as username. But instead of my regular password, I used a Application-specific password.

Go to https://accounts.google.com/IssuedAuthSubTokens#accesscodeshttps://accounts.google.com/IssuedAuthSubTokens#accesscodes :

Generate a new application specific password by choosing a name (like IPAD2) and click on the icon.

You will get a 16 digit code:

Use this new code as your gmail password while configuring your account on the ipad and it will work!!
