Can I Use GarageBand Make An Audio Book?

A friend told me that I can use GarageBand to make an audio book. I'm an author, and I would like to record several of my books as audio books, using sound effects and music. Can I do this with GarageBand, and if so, how would I go about it? Do I need a special microphone? Whatever you can tell me would be extremely helpful, since as of this writing, I don't have a clue.

it depends on how professional you want to sound. i would suggest starting out with the internal mic on the mac to see how you like it. then if that's not to your satisfaction, take a look at a good quality USB mic, like one of the ones here:

Also, you'll probably want to start with a Podcast project template. I know you're not making a podcast, but it's close enough to what you actually want to do, so the new project will be set up with some vocal tracks and sound effect tracks all ready for you to start recording.
