Q: Anyone have Momentus XT HD with the newest 2011 Macbook Pro?

So I have heard many many mixed reviews on the Momentus XT and the Macbook Pro.. many of them are for earlier models. I am wondering if anyone here has the 2011 Macbook Pro and is finding positive bug-free results from the hard drive?

Overall the HD has great reviews across the web, usually 3.5 or 4/5 stars, but I would hate to install a ticking timebomb or a faulty/defective product into an expensive brand new computer :S

    Hi guys,

I'm using the XT for a few months now and haven't got any problems at all, in my early 2008 MBP.

Because it is a 2008 model, it is not the fastest in the world so i bought the new 15" 2,2Ghz i7 MBP.

Today i swapped the HDD's and to my suprise the new MBP would't take the XT. No booting of OSX or Bootcamp. Bootable disk or formatting the disk didn't work at all. After hooking up the old model to the new one with firewire i was able to format the XT and tried again to get a clean install, but this also wasn't a success. It kept giving me the kernel panic screen when i inserted the OSX disk...

I have tried to update the XT, but also failed so i swapped back and it works like a charm.. IN MY OLD MBP!

Has anybody got the same issue and resolved it with the firmware update from Seagate?

    Al.

    Hi,

I have the Momentus XT in my MBP 13" (2011, 2,3GHz Core i5) and haven't had any problems.

And it's fast! Boot up time dropped from 43 seconds to 19 seconds. Mail is started and ready before I've even lift of my finger from the touchpad.

Be sure to have the latest firmware (SD25) installed on the XT before installing it in your MBP.

There are known issues with earlier firmware releases (like freezing the computer and not spinning down to save power if the MBP tells it to do so).

I bought one of these from frys, had mountain lion lock up during install, hard reset, then the disk failed.  Fry's gave me a new one I didn't use it for a couple of months, I got it set up and then fail again within a day.  2 drives and neither lasted more than 48 hours.  My guess is they have issues with power fail/lockup failures.  So as not to bad mouth seagate I have had over 20 seagate drives and never had any high percentage of failures.  I have had 3 now in my macbook pro with no failures until now.  I will not even try another momentus xt after this.  I'll even sell the refurb when it comes in.  Just my experience, for what it is worth.  BTW mid 2007 MBP.
