Exchange Server Email Drains Battery Life

I have been having battery draining issues for months on my iPhone 3Gs. Sunday, my second visit to the Genius Bar resulted in getting a "new" replacement 3GS phone. I still noticed a significant battery drain issue (lose about 20% battery every hour) with this new phone. hmmm - can't be hardware, I thought. I'll check out some software solutions to the battery draining fast.

After much more experimenting I have FINALLY determined that my work email account is the problem. I did all the normal suggestions of PUSH off, Location OFF, screen brightness low, Notificatons OFF, etc. Those things MIGHT have made a slight difference (I couldn't tell if they did), but when I switch my work email account to INACTIVE that does the trick. I have four email accounts, and the work account is the only one that uses MS EXCHANGE Server. It also doesn't seem to matter (much?) if I have it on PUSH or FETCH. It also has not helped to delete then reload the account to the phone (or a new phone restored from the previous for that matter).

There is another person at my work that has a 3GS on the same server (MIS verified that it IS on the same hardware), and he does not have the battery drain issue.

I need suggestions - PLEASE!

I like that idea. I'm not 100% sure I understand. I tried to create another email account while leaving the current one in the INACTIVE state.

I got the error message, "Cannot Create Account An Identical Exchange account already exists."

Earlier I had tried deleting and re-entering the account again, so I didn't actually try that again at this time (something about the definition of insanity comes to mind).

Sorry for the delayed response. I did this, and I'm still not sure about the outcome. Last night, it appeared to be a winner. However today it seems to have helped battery life only a little. Bottomline is that I don't actually know just yet.

Either way, I'm am very happy for this forum and the support here! User uploaded file

I'll have to check this out for a few more days; maybe even attempt your advice one more time before I declare victory or still have this issue.

Thanks for the help to this point! Awesome is all I can say!!

I definitely appreciate ALL advice. My battery now seems to last all day withOUT this Exchange email account active... with it active I have been getting to 20% in 4 hours (I lose about 20% per hour - of course, like you say, it varies).

I will have to spend a couple of days (a week?) experimenting around... also, since the battery drops so fast with this email active, I can only experiment when I know I will have a power supply around for next several hours (for example when I ride my Harley I can't power the phone or if I'm at the ballfield, etc.). I'm just saying it limits determination if this is the cure.
