No sim card installed insert valid sim card with no pin lock to activate

Hi, i just got iphone 4 with version 4.3. as i am new to iphone i just did all reset setting and i end up with the message on screen (no sim card installed insert valid sim card with no pin lock to activate iphone) and later on when i tried to restore it with the help of itunes a warning come up (The iphone software update server could not be contacted. an unknown error occurred.3254)

If some one can help me in this case that will be really great.

This sounds like a GSM iPhone... Did you buy it off eBay or a friend?
If you are on a contract plan with your iPhone, take it back to the store and ask for a new phone.

If it's a second-hand phone, when you reset the phone, you have to have a carrier SIM card in the phone to unlock it. It's annoying yes, but it wouldn't be Apple otherwise 😉

yes, i bought to friend on very cheap rates, and i don't have carrier sim card now so what i can do now.

any idea ?

Try any of the tips below-

Random person on the street
Mall kiosk/store of the carrier that iPhone is on/locked to
(I am from the USA, idk the Australia telcos)
Your friend you buy iPhone from
eBay for the SIM card for the carrier.

Here in the USA, the SIM doesn't even have to be active on the carrier, the iPhone just needs to have one inside it to unlock it.
