I shot some footage with a JVC HM100. Imported to FCP and dropped a clip on the timeline. I said OK to changing the sequence to match. I checked and under the Quicktime video settings, the compressor is XSCAMEX 1080i60. Should I be changing this to Apple ProREs422? THis footage is ending up on a DVD.

It's 4:2:0 color then. If you have a lot of graphics, and stills etc to add or a lot of effects, you might want to work in ProRes, otherwise though, I'd not bother if the delivery is an SD DVD or the web.
One last question, I shot this in 1920x1080, as I am not burning HD, is this a waste? I thought I might try shooting at 1280x720, would it look any worse? I want to keep the highest Def. I can get but don't want to waste a lot of room and time and get nothing in return. I thought that shooting at the highest level would produce the best results but am rethinking that. Thanks so much for your input.
Shoot in 1280X720 mov. Go to the settings - render control - choose ProRes 422 instead of same as codec. Export QuickTime ProRes 422 or Pro Res 422 LT. Its is a bigger file than XDCam EX but the the final output is perfect. 1280X720 is the best option.
Glad I could help. I own this great camcorder my self and I have after lot of reading come to this conclusion. After al,l this as "Final Cut Pro camcorder" as they call it and I love this camcorder.
So when I am ready to burn, go to FILE>EXPORT>QUICKTIME MOVIE>and set the SETTINGS to Apple ProRes 422 1920x1080 60i 48khz (as this is what it was shot at). Do I check the MAKE SELF CONTAINED MOVIE? I don't see ProRes LT, I am using 6.0.6 so maybe its not there?
If your sequence is in that format you just use current settings. You check make self-contained if you want a high resolution master. LT i not available in v6.
Well, if I go to SEQUENCE tab in FCP and click on SETTINGS, then the Quicktime Video Setting , under Compressor its set at XSCAM EX 1080i60 which is what it set to when I dragged the first clip onto the timeline. Do I still export to CURRENT SETTINGS? Sorry for my confusion. Just want to be sure I get it right.
