Can I cancel my ISP and Use the Mobile Hotspot Exclusively in my Home?

Hi!

I am wondering if I can safely cancel my current Internet Service Provider, which is a wireless LAN DSL connection, in my home and start using my iPhone 4's wifi/hotspot capabilities instead? I am paying for unlimited data thru Verizon. Or do I need to keep subscribing to an ISP of some sort?

Thank you, in advance for your help!

Chances are, the "unlimited data" option will not last forever. Most carriers are reconsidering offering it, and like many ISPs, they might start cutting off or restricting users that use excessive amounts of data, even under unlimited plans.

The system requirements for an iPhone lists Internet access as a requirement.

To install iPhone software updates, your computer needs internet access. During the software update, your iPhone cannot provide internet access to your computer. Therefore, you need a separate working internet connection to update or restore your phone.
