Capture video & audio from Sony CCD-TRV328 Hi8 8mm Handycam?

I wanted to know if it was possible to capture video from 8mm tapes playing on the Sony Handycam thru a Panasonic DVX100BP (going as analog thru digital) camcorder.

The Sony Handycam CCD-TRV328 doesn't have any firewire ports and I don't want to spend a lot of money buying something like Pinnacle Video Capture or a similar equally expensive program.

I had thought about using the EasyCap usb (heard it worked on macs) but was told the quality wasn't great if captured that way.

Any thoughts, suggestions, stories about using the Panasonic DVX100BP as analog to digital medium?

Thanks for your help!

As long as the DVX100BP supports analog-digital passthrough, that's the way to go. You will get DV over Firewire, which is what you want for FCE.

Be aware that you will need to use the +DV NTSC DV Converter+ easy setup in FCE and you will be limited to using +Capture Now+ & have to +manually start & stop your Sony Handycam+ when capturing. No big deal. I do it all the time with my Canon Optura and analog camcorders and VCRs and it works fine.

Note ...if you plan on editing video in FCE, none of those USB-based converters (Pinnacle, EasyCap, etc) is going to work.
